Welcome to Simply Sweet Recipes! I will continue to add more recipes, so continue to check back occasionally.
Frosting:
1 - 2lb bag of powdered sugar
1/2 c. of shortening
1/2 c. of icing shortening
Add a little bit of water until the texture is right (not too stiff)
Flavor to taste (Butter Vanilla is really good!)
Whip ingredients together with mixer or hand mixer
My Buttercream Icing:
1 1/2 bag of powdered sugar (about 3lbs.)
1 c. of Crisco
1 c. of salted butter (2 sticks)
1/2 c. of milk
2 tsp. of vanilla (use clear imitation vanilla if you want a pure white frosting)
Directions: Beat butter and Crisco on high speed until smooth (about 5 - 10min). Gradually add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Mix until smooth. Hint: You may need to adjust the amount of powdered sugar you use depending on what the icing is for. If at anytime the frosting looks and feels perfect for what you need it, don't add anymore powdered sugar. Aslo, if you over mix your buttercream icing, it can become too warm and watery. Refrigerate, and then allow it to come back to room temperature. Then whip it up a little before using.
